Gothic Pursuit

From the Covent Garden offices of the magazine entitled The Modern Façade to the architectural bookshop in Long Acre is a short step. Tim takes it with his old friend and editor Toby Prescott in search of a piece of furniture designed by Richard Norman Shaw, the famous London architect. But not only has the bookseller been murdered; subsequently a dealer on the South Coast meets the same fate, Tim is in trouble with his employer Jeremy White, upsets his girl friend Sue and deeply irritates his old rugby-playing pal, Chief Inspector Nobby Roberts of Scotland Yard, who does not care that Shaw designed the Yard's old buildings on the Embankment. Even worse, an attempt on Toby Prescott's life is compounded by violent events occurring in different parts of the country as Tim pursues both art and business in a lethal hunt for White's Bank's gain and its Art Fund's prestige. Both targets stretch him to the limit.
