Leo's War, From Gaspe to Vimy

Leo's War is a fine addition to Canadian literature of the First World War. The letters of Leo LeBoutillier are a touching look into the life of a heroic First World War soldier. Leo was in many ways typical of the young Canadians who volunteered in 1914: a kind, family man dedicated to his community and his Country. He gave up everything to go to fight for what he believed in. "Boots", as he was known in the Regiment, turned out to be an exceptional soldier, winning the Distinguished Conduct Medal for bravery during the Battle of Somme in 1916. He was one of the heroes who stormed Vimy Ridge on that famous April morning 90 years ago. His letters give a personal insight into the type of man that brought Canada to Nationhood during the First World War." Norm Christie, author and host of the acclaimed W.W.I documentary "For King & Empire" as seen on The History Channel. "This book is a rare collection of letters from a decorated soldier to his family. Each letter provides an authentic glimpse of a man of promise and how important family was to his identity. Leo's War provides a unique insight into a Canadian soldier's life in the trenches during W.W.I. It is an excellent read". A. Blake Seward, creator of the "The Lest We Forget Project" and winner of the 2006 Governor General's Award for Excellence in Teaching Canadian History, The Veterans Affairs Recognition Award, and The Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence.
