The courageous exploits of Doctor Syn

"The Courageous Exploits of Doctor Syn" is the 4th in chronological sequence of Russell Thorndike's seven highly entertaining novels about the Reverend Doctor Syn, the apparently harmless vicar of Dymchurch in Kent who led a secret life as a pirate and smuggler. Like the previous volume, "The Further Adventures Of Doctor Syn", it is an episodic collection of adventures, following Syn's adventures in his guise. As the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh he foils all attempts to catch him and to break up the Dymchurch smugglers. The Nightriders, the most successful smuggling gang in Kent, have outwitted first every customs officer sent against them, and then the army. Nobody could imagine that their mysterious leader "The Scarecrow" could possibly be the mild-mannered vicar of Dymchurch, Dr Syn. But in this book, Doctor Syn faces the most dangerous enemy of his career - Captain Blaine of the Royal Navy.
