The Early History of the Abbey of Abingdon

This work is a facsimile reprint of the classic work by Sir Frank Stenton first published in 1913. It is printed on archive-standard long-life paper. This book was omitted from Sir Frank's collected papers, it being rather long for inclusion in a collection of essays, but it is a relatively short book. Nevertheless it is an early example of exemplary scholarship from one of the greatest Anglo-Saxon historians, which interprets the early history of Abingdon with full regard for the criticism of the charter evidence and the local place-names. It was first published by the University of Reading, where Stenton taught but was out of print for many years before this reprint restored it to life. The design of the cover closely copies that of the original edition.
