Roman Chichester

An account of Roman Chichester (Noviomagus) based on the archaeological and inscriptional evidence. The chapters cover the history of Chichester from the late pre-Roman Iron age, through the Roman period to the Sub-Roman and Saxon periods. The role of the client king Cogidubnus (aka Togidubnus) in the first century AD is considered and there is also material on the development of the Roman town, the building of the walls, the life of the people, funerary rites, religion, trade and industry. The author was involved for many years in archaeological investigations in Chichester and is the author of the internationally respected "Chichester Excavations" series.
