Climbing Lilies (Gomna's Series)

Climbing Lilies is the story of a young Creole woman who fell in love with a ‘Countryman’ in sixties and seventies Sierra Leone. The protagonist presents the issues that contact between creole and Provincial cultures generated, especially those affecting courtship and marriage across that divide. Her narrative shows how she and her boyfriend weathered the storms in their romance, the threats from their respective families, and the harmony between their two families that their marriage fostered. The novel concludes the Gomna series that began with Gomna’s Children and added A Corner of Time, and Manners Maketh Man. In this new novel, Modupe, Bandami’s wife, tells her own story about the family. Once again, history and culture provide rich tapestries for this intriguing narrative.
