"Old New York" by Edith Wharton is a collection of four novellas, each one set in a different decade in New York City (1840s, 1850s, 1860s, and 1870s). Some characters of these stories are featured also in The Age of Innocence; in a way these four novellas could be treated as a prequel to this Wharton's world famous novel.
The four novellas are:
False Dawn (The 'Forties)
The Old Maid (The 'Fifties)
The Spark (The 'Sixties)
New Year's Day (The 'Seventies)
