Unkosher Slaughter

A beloved rabbi is brutally murdered on Passover Eve. On a religious kibbutz. Who wants the rabbi dead?
When Rachel Shine, newly divorced psychologist, returns to Kibbutz Kerem-El for the holiday, her idyllic childhood home is wrapped in grief and suspicion. Reb Elijah, their spiritual leader, has been savagely murdered and his eccentric son-in-law is accused of the killing. Rachel has her doubts. What’s more, the kibbutz’ chief moneymaker—the Hotel Spa—faces mass cancellations over the Passover holiday, its reputation as an island of serenity shattered. When asked to stay on and treat the traumatized kibbutzniks, Rachel reluctantly agrees despite the panic attacks that grip her as a result of a suicide bombing.
But her clients’ secrets draw her into old grudges and violent passions. As she probes their tangled motives for multiple murders, she is targeted by a ruthless killer. And her encounter with the enigmatic Detective Absalom Brill causes her to question whether she will be able to love again.
Set in the atmospheric Carmel mountains, Unkosher Slaughter explores not only Rachel’s struggle with her past, but the complex threads woven through the fabric of Israeli society today.
