Accommodation

Cowboy-camped 4 nights. Stayed in gîtes two nights. The daily entries in red mark where we slept.

Weather

Mostly sunny with a cold wind during the day and night-time temperatures around freezing. No precipitation.

Schedule

Day 1: Marrakesh to trailhead to Tighza
Day 2: Tighza to near Tamzrit
Day 3: Near Tamzrit to Megdaz
Day 4: Megdaz to Amezri
Day 5: Amezri to near Ghougoult
Day 6: Near Ghougoult to Agouti
Day 7: Taxis back to Marrakesh

Synopsis

Scenic, moderately strenuous hiking up to around 3000m on mostly good paths. I preferred camping as opposed to staying in villages. If snow is not your thing then hike later in the year than March because it will be snowy on the Tarkeddit plateau.

Hi Alex, don't know if you still check this, but I'm planning a self-guided trek in the same area using the Alan Palmer guide book also in the middle of March of this year! Was just wondering about how frequently you come across food to purchase? Also is it fairly easy to get to the start point and out from the exit as we have fairly limited time in the country. Hi Steph, sorry this reply is too late! I hope you had a great hike! To belatedly answer your questions - I remember food being quite limited at this time of year - we wished we'd brought more from the city. Transport was quite slow - it took much of a day to get to the beginning and much of day to get back to the capital at the end but I'm sure this could be made much faster with private arrangements.
